Dominique Lobbestael is a Belgian figurative artist whose work situates itself within realistic surrealism. He constructs installations that he places in disorienting contexts, imbuing them with a surreal charge. His primary focus, however, lies in drawing and painting.

His visual language moves between the unsettling and the critical on the one hand, and the poetic, the tender, and the nurturing on the other. This tension forms the essence of his work. His oeuvre breathes a deeply rooted sense of Weltschmerz — a melancholic undertone he has carried with him since childhood like a heavy mantle.

Dominique’s works actively seek dialogue with the viewer, inviting them to engage with and unravel their layered and emotional complexity.
